Tappers Cafe, The Sphere, Bangsar South

We visited the Art Village at Bangsar South recently in search of paintings for our home. When we were done there, it was close to lunch time so we decided to eat at Bangsar South before heading home. There weren't much dining choices here, so we got back into our car and drove further down the road to The Sphere at Bangsar South. We chose Tappers Cafe in the end as it was one of the more brightly lit and busier restaurants here.

Tappers Cafe decor is contemporary, inspired by colonial designs such as louvred windows, off-white walls, and white rattan chairs. Adorning the walls were black and white photos and antique lamps.

The menu here is pretty basic, serving both Western (bangers & mash, pie & mash etc.) and local specialities (nasi dagang, Hainanese chicken chop etc.). They offer a set lunch on weekdays from 11am to 2.30pm, possibly to attract the working crowd around that area. All set lunches were served with a choice of honey lemon, lemon tea, lime juice or goo leng ping.

I ordered the Fish & Chips set with goo leng ping (RM10.90). As I took my first sip of the goo leng ping, I was reminded of the sirap bandung I used to love in secondary school. We did not have high expectations of the food here, so we were pleased that the food was well cooked. The battered fish was nice, and crispy without being greasy. Even the chips were nice and tasted freshly cooked. My only criticism would be that the coleslaw should be served in a separate dish to stop the chips from getting soggy.

I ♥ the goo leng ping here

Hubby had the Caesar Salad set with Ice Lemon Tea (RM9.90). Again, we found the salad to be well prepared, even the croutons have been freshly prepared, so it still had the nice crunch.

We also ordered some onion rings (RM3.80) to share. They were light and crisp and the batter was just right.

Verdict: A satisfying lunch at a very reasonable price.
